Gibraltar Rock Forest has long been treasured for its locally unique topography, minerals, flora and fauna, and for its overall beauty and drama. Almost completely forested, this 136-acre parcel of land contains the iconic “Gibraltar Rock,” a 5-acre anvil of rock that surges some 200 ft. above forested vernal pools which contain unusual lime-loving flora and support amphibian populations. The area contains a number of rare minerals including Warwickite and Edenite. The Lenape Nation, during their possession of the land, congregated there, and the Rock has continued to play this role from colonial to recent times as a site for church picnics and town celebrations of all kinds.
