Some of our neighbors in Minisink are experiencing the effects of a gas compressor station (used to move fracked gas) built in a neighborhood where 190 homes are within a 1/2 mile radius.  People have organized to stop construction of the CPV Valley fracked gas power plant in Wawayanda (Rt. 6 near Rt. 84) and since it has opened, we continue to fight to close the plant.

Making Progress in Fight Against CPV

  • March 3, 2020 - Senator Metzger introduces bill to deny DEC permits for corrupt corporate behavior as department weighs CPV permit application.

  • July 9, 2020 - The Southwest Pennsylvania Environmental Health Project (EHP) helps to address health concerns of residents who live near gas industry infrastructure.

  • July 23, 2020 - Metzger’s Bill requiring a higher level of review for CPV Permit passes State Senate.

  • September 2020 - Environmental Health Project receives grant from Park Foundation for training local environmental groups to monitor particulate matter and volatile matter within 2 miles of CPV Valley (Middletown) plant.

We have been confirmed as one group to receive this training. As part of the program, we’ll need to buy some equipment to be placed on 2 sites near the plant. The total investment for SW is around $950. for the monitors, connection to the internet, Speck monitors and analysis at an accredited lab. Protect Orange County will also participate in this project.

We are appealing to all members who oppose the operation of this plant to make a donation to SW’s Infrastructure Committee to offset the cost of this monitoring program. You can do so by clicking the DONATE button to use your Paypal account or credit card.

The results of the analysis will be published by EHP in 2021 and all the data will be made available to Sustainable Warwick for future efforts to deny the permits required for them to operate.
