After the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation in August denied the remaining permits for gas pipeline that would supply the CPV fracked gas power plant in Wawayanda, FERC overrode the DEC decision. Although local citizens found eagles (a protected species) nesting along the pipeline to connect to the plant, construction proceeded.
For updates on the situation, see the Protect Orange County Facebook page.
Gov. Cuomo has said he supports renewable energy and transitioning off fossil fuels, but now he is supporting an even larger gas power plant in Ulster county.

Because of the shallowness of our bedrock, the type of subsurface soils (sand and gravel), and because of the amount of wetlands and streams Millennium’s Valley Lateral Pipeline would cross, this pipeline poses a danger to water supplies in the area, as well as danger to farms and local wildlife.
