June 2021

We met in person at the Warwick Town Park located on Union Corners Road. Before the meeting began, we enjoyed an hour of snacks, hanging out, and an outrageous folk song/dance that you would have to see to believe.

The meeting ran from 7:30 to approximately 8:20pm. Everyone introduced themselves, and explained how they came to SW, as we had new guests there.

Triple Win Campaign - The Triple Win Campaign is in full swing, and we could use volunteers to help out.

The webinar was held on June 17th in conjunction with Albert Wisner Public Library. Please check out this link to the webinar (which was posted by Peter Hall) and share it with friends. We are grateful to Mayor Michael Newhard, Trustee Corey Bachman and the whole Warwick Village Town Board for endorsing the Triple Win Campaign.

Please send all questions, comments and suggestions about community solar and the Triple Win campaign to CleanEnergy@sustainablewarwick.org.

Here are different ways people could help the campaign along:

  • If you don’t have your own solar panels and you haven’t signed up for community solar yet, that’s the first thing to do

  • Sign up to sit at a farmers market (either in Florida on Tuesdays or in Warwick on Sundays)

  • Help distribute brochures around Warwick

  • Connect us with a community group that would like to hear a sweet presentation on community solar and the Triple Win Campaign

  • Volunteer to help any of the six nonprofits who are part of the campaign promote community solar to their homeys throughout Warwick

  • Perhaps most importantly — talk to your neighbors and friends

Contact Local Representatives - Senator Mike Martucci is coming to Warwick on June 23rdand will be meeting people at Town Hall. Mary feels we should make ourselves known so he is aware there is support for the environment. She has scheduled an appointment for 11:30 AM. Please join us if you want to meet Senator Martucci.

Sustainable World Podcast Club (New!) - Some of us would like to start a podcast club that would be a lot like the Sustainable World Book Club, except centered on podcasts, not books. Members will select podcasts on environmental issues to listen to and discuss. We're looking for new members from all age brackets to join this new group. If interested, email greenfuture@sustainablewarwick.org.

Book Club - The Sustainable World Book Club is reading The Death and Life of the Great Lakes, by Dan Egan. We will discuss the book on July 13th. As always, you don't need to read it to join us. For more information reach out to: bookclub@sustainablewarwick.org

Social Media Intern Wanted - SW would like to hire an intern to promote our work on social media. Groups are increasingly using social media to gather support and we need to be there. Tenley might suggest her daughter. We can also reach out to Green Future to see if they can suggest anyone. Please contact us if you know of anyone interested in doing this work. steeringcommittee@sustainablewarwick.org

O&R Rate Case - O&R is currently negotiating with the Public Service Commission. It wants to raise its rates and also has other business choices to make that will affect our prices as consumers as well as the environment we all share. Will they continue connecting new customers to natural gas? Will they encourage the rapid build out of wind and solar energy? SW has become a party to the rate case so we can keep an eye on these questions.

Farm-to-Table Dinners. We have shared the Farm-to-Table concept with a new group in Warwick called “We the People.” The idea of gathering groups of people to host local farmers for potluck dinners may be one of the projects they adopt and develop.
