HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT LED LIGHTS FOR YOUR HOME
Does buying a light bulb seem more complicated and confusing than it should be?
Do LED’s last as long as they claim?
Do they look as good as my old incandescent lights?
Do they throw out too much glare, or look like “white hospital lighting”?
Can they be used indoors, outdoors and in wet locations?
In the past, it was pretty easy to buy an incandescent light bulb - we had a pretty good idea how much light we’d get with a 40 watt, a 60 watt, a 75 watt or a 100 watt bulb, and they all put out the same warm glow.
But in the world of LED lights, a 9 watt LED bulb can emit more light than a 75 watt incandescent. The color might be a warm yellow, a bright, cool white or something in between. Some can change color entirely from red to blue to green and back to white. Some are dimmable, some are not. How do I know that what I’m buying is a good replacement for the incandescent bulb I was using?
Join us at the Albert Wisner Library on April 24th to learn about the benefits of LED Lighting, presented by Greg Galluccio. Albert Wisner Library will also share information on their recent retrofit to LED lighting and the savings that will generate.
Greg Galluccio, a Warwick resident with over 40 years experience as an engineer in the electronics industry, 23 of them in LED light development, will help make the new industry terms - lumens, color temperature, dimmability, etc., familiar and understandable. Greg will also discuss the many benefits of LED technology to both the user and the environment, offer various ways to manually or automatically control LED lighting and also discuss some applications where LED’s cannot be used.
